Tell Me More! The picture doesn't do them justice. Iolite is a mysterious violet-blue stone that looks gray from certain angles. This effect is called pleochroism, and it is somewhat rare in gemstones. These chips are mainly too small to see the effect, but once in a while if you look at one individually you can see it.
